How to Improve the Wear Resistance of PCBN Composite Tool Materials

The manufacturing of PCBN composite tool materials is a complex engineering process, where factors such as raw materials, formulations, and production techniques can all influence the product's wear resistance.

To ensure excellent wear resistance in CBN composite tool materials, Zhengzhou Berlt conducts extensive experimental analysis on every factor involved in the production process, laying a solid foundation for high-quality CBN composite tool materials.

1Binder Content

For CBN composite tool materials, CBN is the primary contributor to wear resistance. Therefore, the relative ratio of CBN to the binder phase is crucial in determining the wear resistance of the material.

2CBN Particle Size

As the CBN particle size decreases, the wear resistance of the composite tool material gradually increases. This indicates that finer CBN particles contribute to higher wear resistance. The reason is that smaller CBN particles have a larger specific surface area, leading to faster solid-phase diffusion during sintering, which improves the densification of the composite material.

3Synthesis Temperature

An appropriate sintering temperature is essential for achieving high wear resistance in the composite material. However, the optimal temperature is not a fixed value but rather a range. Therefore, the influence of sintering temperature on wear resistance is relatively easy to control and is not a major factor causing instability in wear performance.

4Synthesis Pressure

As the synthesis pressure increases, the wear resistance of CBN composite tool materials gradually improves. This is because higher pressure promotes tighter bonding between CBN particles, reducing gaps and increasing densification.
